Weather conditions: |
| The situation was approximately similar in 1992 and 1995, but in 1994 there were late snow-melt and low success for breeding geese. The 1993 season was in general a very good season, ambient temperatures higher than normal.

Breeding conditions:
|
| I have studied barnacle geese in the area around Ny-Alesund (small village) in Svalbard. In this area the geese bred on islands in the fjord (Kongsfjorden). Some island are bare and very dry, but the major island (Storholmen) is quite wet with nutrient rich vegetation.

Summary
of fauna studies: |
| During 4 seasons (1992-1995) I have conducted field work in this area for my PhD Thesis (Defense 15th December 1995). I have two MS in press, two submitted. My thesis will be available when I have defended it!
